Telecom Fiji selects WiMAX system by SR Telecom

Telecom Fiji selects WiMAX-ready system by SR Telecom for ongoing network expansion.

SR Telecom (TSX: SRX; Nasdaq: SRXA), the Montreal designer and manufacturer of Broadband Fixed Wireless Access solutions and a principal member of WiMAX Forum, announced today that its symmetry Broadband Fixed Wireless Access system has been chosen by Fiji’s national telecommunications provider Telecom Fiji Limited, in a commercial initiative to bring voice and broadband data access services to certain areas of the island.

The symmetry system, launched in early November and operating in the 3.5 GHz frequency bands, is the only WiMAX-ready Broadband Wireless Access solution currently on the market. The system combines the most advanced modulation (OFDMA) with the key WiMAX technologies outlined in the latest draft of the 802.16e standard (including diversity, ARQ and space-time coding) to deliver immediate deployment of carrier-class voice and broadband data services.
