Aperto Networks in First Wave of WiMAX Forum Certification

June 27, 2005

Aperto Networks, a leading WiMAX broadband wireless multiservice systems provider serving over 200 operators in more than 60 countries, is shipping its recently announced PacketMAX product portfolio to the CETECOM certification labs in Malaga, Spain next month. The company will be in the first wave of WiMAX certification to be conducted by CETECOM, the WiMAX Forum's official certification facility. Aperto has also completed internal lab interoperability testing between its Fujitsu silicon-based PacketMAX base station and its Intel silicon-based subscriber unit, thus becoming the first WiMAX vendor to accomplish major Silicon vendor interoperability across a single system.

"By conducting the interoperability between Intel & Fujitsu silicon based systems, Aperto continues on its tradition of firsts and industry leadership," stated Aperto CEO Reza Ahy. "This milestone is a key step towards the promise of WiMAX, where broad-based interoperability will provide service providers with easy-to-deploy and best-of-breed system elements. We have performed substantial conformance testing and pre-staging in our labs for the submission of our PacketMAX portfolio to the CETECOM labs. We are also performing bilateral interoperability with other key players to ensure a smooth process through the WiMAX Forum defined tests. These steps are part of our plan to be among the first to certify TDD profiles."

As announced in early June, Aperto's PacketMAX system gives carriers the full benefits of a WiMAX Forum-certified solution, a clear path to portability and mobility, powerful voice over IP features, and a common platform shared with Aperto's existing PacketWave architecture. The company expects to begin limited shipments for 3.5 GHz systems during the third quarter of 2005, followed shortly by 2.5 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, supporting all WiMAX Forum TDD profiles in all frequencies.

Aperto Networks will exhibit and speak this week at the Wireless Communications Association's annual conference in Washington DC, from June 28 - July 1, 2005.
