ADP Télécom banks on WiMAX with Alcatel
April 05, 2005
After obtaining an experimental license from the ART, ADP Télécom is actively launching itself into trials of WiMAX, the new high-speed broadband wireless data transmission standard, and is signing a partnership agreement with Alcatel to produce the first pilots for professional use in collaboration with its customers, "ADP" (Aéroports de Paris/Paris Airports) and "WFS" (a company in the Vinci Group, airport services leader).
The upgrading of WiMAX towards nomadic functions in the years to come, and its complementarity with a Wi-Fi coverage have boosted ADP Télécom's interest in this technology and goals in giving airport professionals access to their specific applications (baggage tracking, car rental, passenger check-in, etc.) and using WiMAX to offer these same services over the entire airport (passenger terminals, technical, freight and office areas).
ADP Télécom will manage the pilots, while Alcatel will provide all the equipment necessary for the trials.
"Setting up this pilot for Aéroports de Paris will highlight the advantages of WiMAX for professionals working in dense-traffic airport areas, by immediately taking into account the fixed and nomadic aspects of WiMAX," stated Sylvie Richir, head of broadband wireless access activities at Alcatel.
"WiMAX is the technology of the future to meet all the professional needs of enterprises working in the airport industry and with whom we already collaborate", concludes Benoît Vedel.
