Motorola develops WiMAX platform

US mobility solutions provider Motorola has developed its Canopy WiMAX platform for the licensed 3.5 GigaHertz band, which is available worldwide. Planned for general availability in early 2006, the platform includes infrastructure, indoor and outdoor customer premise equipment (CPE) and management components.
The plug-and-play indoor CPE is user installable, with a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) range of up to three kilometres.
The Canopy system is a scalable platform for voice over internet protocol (VoIP), video and broadband data applications. Governments, enterprises, carriers and internet service providers have deployed Canopy wireless broadband products to provide wide-area WiMAX-like broadband and VoIP service in some 85 countries.
